The iconic 34th Annual Food & Wine weekend returns to Aspen as the ultimate festival for the epicurious and well-imbibed alike. While this weekend usually revolves around celebrity chefs, the grand tasting tent, and the rubbing elbows of industry professionals – Messenger Aspen of course is here to highlight the evening parties that don’t require flashy badges or name-dropping. The name “Food & Wine” over the years has evolved into what we at Messenger like to call “Schmooze & Booze” – with each passing festival there seems to be less and less of food aspect and more of an over-saturation (no pun intended) of liquor companies sponsoring the good times. So get those good times a flowing- and check out some of our Messenger picks below!
Best Place for Late Night Snack – Late Nights At The Nell (starting at 10pm) – Thursday Night go for their famed Champagne kickoff party – and enjoy the perfect pairing on Dom Perignon with $5 Fried Chicken buckets. For Friday’s “Mexican Revolution” come chow down on $3 Mexican street tacos and Don Julio Margaritas. And for their Saturday offerings of the “Shaken and Stirred” event – martinis are on the menu with $3 bona fide New York bagels to keep you satiated through the marathon weekend. All are affordable options and a great place to get in on the high class action.
Best Place to Get a Taste of the Trade – Justice Snow’s will be hosting a variety of liquor tastings throughout the course of the weekend. Starting at 9pm on Friday the Diplomatico Rum team will be there mixing up concoctions, and for Sunday come see the local legend of Stranahans whiskey from 11 am to 3 pm and speak with the Master Distiller Rob Dietrich himself! Both are free and open to the public, come wet your whistle and maybe try to learn a thing or two. Stranahans tasting requires an online RSVP that can be found here (use password: whiskey)
Best Event for the Food & Wine & Weed Connoisseurs – The local dispensary Roots RX will be hosting a variety of cannabis-themed promotions and events to get their foot in the door to the future of integrating weed with the Aspen dining experience (the days of pot brownies are so passe) For Free Slice Friday – enjoy a free slice of pizza on the house from Taster’s with a purchase of a joint. Or stop by on Saturday for the “Weed and Wine” lecture series describing pairings and similarities of the two indulgences. The best of what they have to offer will be their Silent Disco late night Saturday night- make sure to RSVP via their Instagram!
Best Party for Locals – want to get in on the industry scene but don’t want to have to pull any strings? Not a worry – Sky Hotel will be hosting the “No Badges Required” party poolside with DJ Echo providing tunes during the day on Saturday from 2pm-9pm, and on Sunday stop by Grey Lady Aspen for the Rock Angel Rose party with Whispering Angel specials all day. Nothing like a rose patio pounder to finish the weekend strong.
Best Place for Late Night Dance Parties – Rec Room Aspen or Escobar are hosting some of our favorite local DJs – DJ Folami, Danimal, and DJ DC – for when the libations give you the need to cut a rug after all the schmoozing and boozing. Great specials, people watching, dance-offs, the usual…
